The Parliament supported the relevant law No. 0196 with 246 votes. This will allow to receive funding and implement joint projects with the EU in the framework of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, as well as develop hromadas in the region, announced Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine.
“Within the framework of the programme, the EU provides Ukraine with a free of charge EUR 5 million for the projects to be selected on a competitive basis in accordance with the rules of the programme. There are 4 project areas: Innovation and Social Responsibility, Environment and Cultural Responsibility, Better Infrastructure Connections and Energy Efficiency, and Well-Governed Danube Region. Implementation of projects will strengthen inter-regional and cross-border cooperation and partnership in the areas of transport infrastructure development, energy, entrepreneurship, communication networks, culture, education, tourism, healthcare, etc.” said Hennadii Zubko.
It should be mentioned that the Agreement on financing the Danube Transnational Programme was signed by Ukraine in December 2017. The programme is one of the EU's financial instruments for the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, which gives Ukrainian partners an opportunity to get funding and implement joint projects with their partners from the European countries of the Danube Region.
