The Government has approved a draft law on ratification of the Agreement on financing the Danube Transnational Programme. Enactment of the Danube Transnational Programme, after Parliament’s ratification, will provide financing for the development of the Ukrainian part of the Danube Region in the amount of EUR 5 million. These are, above all, the Chernivtsi, Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia Oblasts. The relevant decision was made today at the Government meeting, announced Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine.

He informed that the main areas of cooperation under the agreement include development of innovations, infrastructure development, implementation of energy efficiency, ecology, effective governance.

“The Danube Transnational Programme is another European integration tool and opportunities for the development of hromadas in the Danube Region, including mountainous areas. These are opportunities for business development, job creation, competitiveness and quality of service provision in the border areas of Ukraine,” said Hennadii Zubko.

The development of cross-border cooperation is one of the main priorities of the state regional policy, implemented by MinRegion, and the State Strategy for Regional Development by 2020.

It should be noted that in 2016 the Government of Ukraine approved the State Programme for the Development of Cross-Border Cooperation for 2016-2020, one of the priority tasks of which was the development of cooperation in the Danube Region.
