Public Health System in Zhytomyr Oblast. What should it be like?

There are all necessary conditions to create a high-quality and modern system of Public Health in the Zhytomyr Oblast, in particular - support of the Oblast Council’s members, who unanimously approved the decision during the session on 18 December to establish a Public Health Centre, and active interaction of all medical structures.

This was stated by Yaroslav Laguta, deputy head of the Zhytomyr Oblast State Administration, during the round table “Establishing a system of public health in Zhytomyr Oblast”.

The round table was organised by the Zhytomyr Local Government Development Centre established by the U-LEAD with Europe Programme and MinRegion, the Zhytomyr Oblast State Administration and the Public Health Centre at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The event was attended by regional medical specialists of the Oblast and experts from the U-LEAD with Europe Programme.

“It is not enough to transfer responsibility and authority to the hromadas’ level. It is necessary to support hromadas with appropriate resources and capabilities. And today, at this event, we have to discuss what kind of decisions should be made in the field of public health reform, as well as who and which role should play in this process,” said Anja Fischer, U-LEAD with Europe Sector Reform Team Leader.
