On 28 February, the Committee on State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will consider the draft law “On the Voluntary Amalgamation of Hromadas” regarding the voluntary accession of hromadas of villages and settlements to hromadas of cities of oblast significance (No 6466). This legislative initiative is aimed at unblocking the process of hromadas’ amalgamation around economic activity centres, i.e. cities of oblast significance.

There is a myth that amalgamation of villages with the city can lead to disappearance of these villages. To confirm or disprove this, decentralisation.gov.ua spoke with representatives of the Tyachivska urban AH of the Zakarpattya Oblast, comprising the town of Tyachiv and several nearby villages: Tyachivka, Lazy and Okruhla, and Ruske Pole.
