The Swiss Federal Council approved funding for eight projects related to Ukraine’s recovery, to be implemented by Swiss companies. The total amount of Swiss funding is CHF 135 million.
The projects cover three critical areas:
In the energy sector, this involves, in particular, improving the reliability of the electricity supply in the central, eastern and southern regions, the supply of 150 mobile energy storage systems for critical infrastructure, the restoration of heating networks and the installation of transformers to replace equipment damaged by shelling.
The transport projects involve the restoration of damaged substations, the electrification of the railway network, the installation of overhead lines and the supply of equipment to modernise the railway. A separate project in the eastern regions aims to improve the supply of drinking water to the local population by modernising water management systems.
The projects were selected on a competitive basis from among Swiss companies with representative offices in Ukraine. Each company is required to finance at least 10% of the cost of its project. The selection was made according to criteria agreed upon by the Ukrainian and Swiss parties, including relevance, expected impact, technical feasibility, risks, and the effective use of funds.
Apart from restoring infrastructure, the initiatives are intended to help preserve and create jobs, train Ukrainian specialists and facilitate the transfer of expertise. For communities, this means not only new equipment but also enhanced capacity to maintain critical systems in working order.
