At the regular session of the Kaniv City Council, the deputies adopted the decision “On approval of the voluntary accession of the Yablunivska hromada of the Kaniv Rayon to the Kanivska urban hromada”.
According to Volodymyr Svyatelyk, acting head of administration of the Executive Committee, on 30 June public hearings were held in Yabluniv, where 80 people unanimously supported the initiative to join Kaniv. Then, a session of the village council was held, where the relevant decision to appeal to Kaniv with an accession proposal was made.
“The procedure of accession of villages and urban-type settlements to the cities of oblast significance has become much simpler – without holding the first elections throughout the AH,” says Serhiy Slynko, director of the Cherkasy Local Government Development Centre, established with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme and MinRegion of Ukraine. “This became possible due to the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Voluntary Amalgamation of Hromadas”, adopted in April on voluntary accession of hromadas of villages and urban-type settlements to hromadas of cities of oblast significance”. This law stimulated amalgamation processes in different parts of the oblast, but Kaniv and Yabluniv have a chance to become a precedent for village’s accession to a city of oblast significance.
