Author: Dmytro Synyak
During the debates on "Why should hromadas amalgamate?", held recently in Ivano-Frankivsk, much attention was paid to questions from the audience. Most of those, who asked questions, were deputies of rayon councils. Some questions and answers deserve attention.
The event was organised by the Swiss-Ukrainian project "Decentralisation Support in Ukraine" (DESPRO) with the assistance of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast State Administration and the Ivano-Frankivsk Local Government Development Centre, established with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme and MinRegion.
The side supporting the voluntary amalgamation of hromadas was represented by Oleksandra Sheremetieva, head of the Omelnytska AH in the Poltava Oblast, Hryhoriy Vanzuryak, head of the Hlybotska AH in the Chernivtsi Oblast, and Anatoliy Kulyk, head of the Baykovetska AH in the Ternopil Oblast. Roman Hrynyshyn, head of the Rohatyn Rayon Council, Vasyl Rybchak, head of the Roznyativ Rayon Council and Ivan Strutynskyi, head of Yaseniv-Pilnyi village (Horodenka Rayon) were against amalgamation.
