How can we help children and teenagers to make conscious choices about their future professions, and create more opportunities for this in their communities?

This topic was raised during the National Forum “The Future We Choose!” held in Kyiv on 22 September. The Forum brought together more than 300 participants – representatives of the Ukrainian and Swiss governments, the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine, regional military administrations and communities, educational institutions, the business sector, international partners, experts, community careers coordinators and school careers counsellors, as well as pupils from different regions of Ukraine.

The event was organised by the Swiss-Ukrainian DECIDE Project in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The main focus of the Forum was the results of the first year of the national pilot project for a career guidance system for children and teenagers, and the next steps for developing the career guidance system at the national, regional and local levels.

During the Forum, the participants discussed:

  • the role of the national government, regions and communities in creating career guidance opportunities for young people;
  • cooperation between educational institutions, public authorities and the business sector;
  • results of a national sociological survey on the educational and professional expectations of children and teenagers, which covered more than 387,000 respondents;
  • ensuring equal access to career guidance and counselling for all children, including those with special educational needs;
  • the next stage in the implementation of the career guidance system.

Watch the video in English and in Ukrainian to find out more about the event and the topics discussed by the Forum participants.
