Ukraine and Poland work on new tools to support communities and regional development

During the 4th International Summit of Cities and Regions, Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration – Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, held a meeting with Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy of the Republic of Poland.

The parties discussed the results and next steps of the Ukrainian-Polish partnership in regional development, community recovery, and preparation for Ukraine’s membership of the European Union.

Oleksii Kuleba emphasised that cooperation between Ukraine and Poland is already bringing tangible results. Thanks to joint projects, over 600 representatives of communities and executive authorities have received training on EU cohesion policy, the mechanisms of structural funds, and modern approaches to territorial development. Ukrainian specialists have also gained practical experience through internships at Polish institutions.

During the meeting, particular attention was paid to the preparation of Ukraine for the bilateral screening under Chapter 22 ‘Regional Policy and Coordination of Structural Instruments’, as well as to the expert support provided by Poland in developing solutions for the future implementation of EU cohesion policy.

The parties also discussed the development of inter-municipal cooperation, the restoration of community infrastructure, and the involvement of Polish businesses in the reconstruction of Ukraine. Priorities include the launch of support mechanisms for municipal projects and the creation of new funding opportunities for communities, particularly for the implementation of infrastructure and regional initiatives.

‘For Ukraine, this is not just about individual projects, but about a new quality of regional development, economic integration, and systematic preparation for full membership of the European Union. We deeply appreciate the support of Poland, its expert assistance, and our genuine strategic partnership,’ emphasised Oleksii Kuleba.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Polish delegation for its solidarity and consistent support for Ukraine on the path to EU accession and the recovery of communities.
