Memorandums of twinning between the cities of the liberated municipalities of Donetsk region and the cities of the American state of Connecticut were signed on Sunday, May 21, in Sviatohirsk.

Sviatohorsk twinned with Easton, and Lyman – with Westport.

The respective decisions were made by the cities at the beginning of the year, but these days mayor of Easton, David Bindelglass, and mayor of Westport, Jen Tooker, personally visited Donetsk region to sign the memorandum and see with their own eyes the destruction caused by the Russian invasion.

Sister city relations between municipalities of Donetsk region and American cities are established thanks to the organization Ukraine Aid International.

"I am sure that these agreements will not be just documents, but effective tools of cooperation. The United States of America provides invaluable support to Ukraine at the state level, but also at the level of self-government, our ties are only getting stronger. Thank you to all the American people for your help!", said Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk regional military administration.
