On April, 14, 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted resolution On Amending the List of Settlements Granted the Status of Mountain Ones, developed by the MinRegion. The amendments are related to the new administrative and territorial arrangement of Ukraine.

So far, there are 714 mountain settlements in Ukraine, located on the territory of 86 hromadas, belonging to 16 rayons and 4 oblasts.

The main criterion for a settlement to be classified as a mountain one is its location at the height of 400 metres and higher above the sea level.
