First in Ukraine energy farm established in Ternopil Oblast

Local activists cultivate fast-growing trees and bushes that are used to heat buildings.

The first in Ukraine energy farm, where plants are used for heating administrative premises, was created in the Borshchiv Rayon of the Ternopil Oblast. The energy farm was opened within the framework of the project “Creating a centre for bioenergy and local energy resources management”.

The local AH grows Miscanthus, Paulownia (wood with the highest growth rate in the world – ed.) and rapidly growing poplar – then they are used as a solid fuel for heating local administrative facilities.

According to the plan of the organisers, energy plants’ cultivation will enable heating of the premises without using natural gas. If the farm continues to show positive results, its infrastructure will be developed for the energy security of the region.

In order to expand the area under the crops, additional 11 hectares of land in the neighbouring village were provided to the local hromada.
