11 hromadas of Zhytomyr Oblast to improve the quality of waste management services with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme

The U-LEAD with Europe programme has selected 11 hromadas in the Zhytomyr Oblast to implement the pilot project on “Improvement of the quality of services in the field of waste management at the municipal level”. The implementation of this project includes:

  • creation of an effective waste management system at the local level;
  • public awareness raising about the proper waste management;
  • formation of a waste management culture, formulation of new standards and rules of conduct;
  • uniting of efforts in this area for hromada’s sustainable development;
  • establishment of a long-term intermunicipal cooperation.

“The project should radically change the hromada’s attitude to waste disposal. In course of the work we have to solve a number of problems that have been ignored for decades, as well as to form a responsible attitude of hromadas’ residents towards the waste-related problems,” says Serhii Ponomaryov, project coordinator in the Zhytomyr Oblast.
