On 24 January, the Central Election Commission held its regular meeting.
Having considered applications filed by a number of Oblast State Administrations requesting that the Commission pass a resolution on calling the first local elections in view of the fact that amalgamated territorial communities have been established in those Oblasts, the Commission established that the applications were in compliance with the requirements of the Constitution of Ukraine and the laws of Ukraine, as well as the Procedure for Calling the First Local Elections and, by its Decision, called elections in 40 such amalgamated territorial communities, on Sunday, 30 April 2017. In this connection, the Commission declared the beginning of the election process from 11 March 2017 regarding the first election of members of village, settlement, and city councils of the amalgamated territorial communities and respective mayors and heads of villages, settlements, and cities.
